Print management information systems offer print operations a solid structure for production workflow. Last week our print MIS round-up featured highlights of key solutions in the market, ranging from very high-end sophisticated and tailored solutions to very affordable, entry level options. This week, we offer brief examples of testimonials from print providers who recently decided to invest or upgrade their print MIS.

Buffalo Printing Co.
Buffalo Printing Co., a digital and offset hybrid shop, is based out of Buffalo, NY, and operates with 13 employees. "We put ink on paper like everyone else, but we cater to the LEAN process companies and non-profits," says Joe Farage, CEO, Buffalo Printing Co.

The shop offers a comprehensive lineup of printing equipment, with a heavy investment in digital. With monthly page volumes reaching 50,000 11x17-inch or larger color clicks and 200,000 back clicks, the company decided to implement a new print MIS system when they realized their old system wasn’t meeting their needs. "It was still very manual," says Farage.

The shop chose a solution from Avanti Computer Systems. Farage says the comprehensive system required an investment of software, installation, and labor hours.

Transitioning from a manual-intensive system, to a more automated and functional solution, Buffalo Printing Co. is confident it will handle future growth. "When we bought our MIS, we bought time. We have more of it now," says Farage. He notes additional benefits such as order and invoice accuracy and opened the doors to new sales. The company plans to take advantage of CRM, Web-to-print, and inventory control integration in the future.

Support, sales, and accuracy are among the top benefits of implementing MIS. Consider the advantages to better estimation and customer relationship management capabilities. Next week, we offer a more in-depth look at a shop experiencing success from a recent investment in print MIS.
